As a Shaper for over 20 years, Nico worked till late 2008 as a backshaper in one of the biggest surfboard factories in Portugal. That work brought him a lot of knowledge and experience in surfboard shaping and performance. While working there, Nico kept developing his own shapes and preparing the future. That future arrived in 2009 with Wavegliders.

Wavegliders came from his will to develop one of a kind surfboards, 100 % custom made, with the best glassjobs possible. His shapes, inspired by the classic boards of the past, like the Longboards, Stubbies or Fish, were developed and improved over the last year, taking their performance to higher levels. Nico also dedicated a lot of time improving his glassing skills, taking risks, trying new stuff, always looking to do better and better. His resin tint and polish work doesn’t stand far from the best work coming from California.

In November 2009, Nico hosted the San Diego shaper Josh Hall in his factory. Those days sharing experiences and knowledge raised Nico’s standards on shaping and glassing. Only by watching the best you can improve!

For 2010 Wavegliders shows a whole new image, modern and clean, like our surfboards. We’re currently developing new shapes and refining the “old” ones to offer even better surfboards and will show that work soon.
